B.A. Alumni Stories

Savannah Garner – Class of 2014

I chose Communication Studies because it was a practical major. I wouldn’t enjoy sitting in a classroom learning things that I would not need in the real world. I knew that the skills I gained from this major were ones that I could use in many different career paths. I knew I wanted to work with people, and this was definitely the best way to learn how to effectively do that!

UNCG brings together a lot of different aspects within the Communication Studies major. You will analyze relationships in Relational Communication, talk about ethical issues in Ethical Communication, learn how to manage and survive in a corporate world in Communication in the Workplace, and even act as though you were hired as a PR associate in the most popular class, Public Relations.  The professors made a huge impact on my learning experience.  The professors really want to help you and will do anything they can to help you succeed in your toughest classes.

My favorite professor, Dr. Manning, is part of the reason I stayed with this major.  Dr. Manning brings so much energy and joy into the classroom. She said once, “Enthusiasm is contagious,” and at that moment I knew I was in the right major.
