Communication Studies

Brittany Mizzel – B.A. 2006

Two weeks after I received my BA in Communication Studies from UNCG, I started my career at TEKsystems as a Technical Recruiter. TEKsystems is an Information Technology staffing and services company with 92 locations in the US, UK, and Canada.

I have utilized the core concepts I learned in the Communication Studies department and I’ve applied those in my current position. I work closely with technical professionals, assisting in their job search and presenting opportunities in the I.T. field. Because I chose to major in communication studies, it has enabled me to connect with a wide variety of people. I have a better understanding of verbal and nonverbal communication, meaning, conflict, and dialogue.

Having the ability to successfully communicate with individuals is imperative in the success of my career, and UNCG’s Communication Studies department has made a lasting impact on me not only as a professional but also as a person. I don’t know of another major that would have prepared me for the career path that I have chosen.
