Sarah Wilde received her M.A. degree in Communication Studies from UNC Greensboro in 2005. While in graduate school, Sarah served as the Graduate Assistant in the University Speaking Center. In this role she coached the staff in creating and presenting interactive workshops focusing on public speaking, interpersonal communication, and group communication. Upon receiving her M.A. degree, Sarah took on a position as a lecturer in the Communication Studies department, teaching the hybrid course and the business communication course. She then was able to join the University Speaking Center again, eventually becoming their Assistant Director, and overseeing client-specific workshops and managing consultant training.
During her tenure at UNC Greensboro, Sarah also was a ropes course facilitator for Team Quest and an advisor in the College of Arts and Sciences (CASA) Advising Center.
Sarah’s interest and enjoyment in working with CASA allowed her to take on a position at UNC Charlotte. Sarah is currently an Academic Advisor for University College at UNC Charlotte, where she assists undeclared and transitional majors with course selection and career planning. While in the M.A. program, Sarah took a pedagogy class and learned about the concept of immediacy behaviors. Her interest in this topic from that course, allowed her to co-publish some essays, articles, and book chapters in that area as well as create and co-present faculty and professional development workshops. In her new role as Academic Advisor, Sarah uses immediacy behaviors on a regular basis to interact with and engage her advisees and colleagues.
