Mark Congdon, Jr., MA 2013
Mark earned his PhD in Communication from the University of Maine in spring 2018. He is now an  Assistant Professor of Communication at College of Saint Rose in Albany, NY.

Kelly O’Donnell (MA alum) is now a doctoral student at the University of Pittsburgh.

Christina Blankenship (MA alum) is now a doctoral candidate at the University of New Mexico.

C.J. Brewer (MA 2018) and Carolin von Schmude (MA exchange student from Universität Tübingen) co-published a book chapter with Dr. Roy Schwartzman:

Tessa DuBois (MA alumna) published her Capstone project:

Professor Cerise Glenn and Dante Johnson (MA alumnus) won the 2013 Outstanding Journal Article of the Year from the African American Communication and Culture Division of the National Communication Association. The Howard Journal of Communications published their article, “What they see as acceptable:” A co-cultural theoretical analysis of black male students at a predominantly white Institution.”

Sam “Chip” Cook (MA alumnus) was honored at the Triad Business Journal‘s 40 Leaders under 40 awards ceremony. Chip serves on the Board of Trustees of the North Carolina Leadership Academy.

Professor Peter Kellett worked with faculty at East Carolina University and Old Dominion University to arrange the Positive Communication Graduate Student Symposia, hosted at ECU. Students in Kellett’s Positive Communication Research course (fall 2013) presented papers. Second-year MA students included: Jessi Eriksen, Theresa 
Hancock, Sarah Hollingsworth, Christie Maillet, Crystal Sutton, and April Wright. First-year students included: Alie Buckley, Elizabeth Dam-Regier, Michael Edinger, Chantel Moore, Adrienne Outcalt, Ranata Reeder, Nic Sprinkle, and Natasha Williams.

Graduate School News

The Graduate School has its Preparing Future Leaders program up and running. The PFL has two tracks: Preparing Future Professionals and Preparing Future Faculty. The PFL is open to Master’s and Doctoral students. More info here: http://grs.uncg.edu/pfl/

The Graduate School announced the new Graduate Dean Awards to provide $4000 annual awards for two years to a limited number of graduate students. The fund will concentrate on new students and will provide ongoing funding for two or three years according to the degree level they are seeking.
