Undergraduate Honors Program

The Department of Communication Studies participates in the Lloyd International Honors College by offering honors in the major, known as “disciplinary honors.” The mission of disciplinary honors in Communication Studies is to give juniors and seniors in the major the opportunity to study topics in depth and to do original, sophisticated research under the supervision of a faculty member as preparation for graduate school or beginning a career.

The department advisor for honors is Dr. Roy Schwartzman, rjschwar@uncg.edu, or leave a message at 334-5297.

Students must complete 12 semester hours of upper division coursework in specific categories of courses in communication studies. The student will work with Dr. Schwartzman to map a plan for 9 of the hours; the last 3 hours are the senior honors project, which is typically done in the last semester of the senior year. Prerequisite: 3.3 GPA.

You must fill out a Disciplinary Honors Program application form to be admitted. Students in disciplinary honors must stay in touch with both the department advisor (Dr. Schwartzman) and the honors college advisor (Shelley Ewing) so that records and approvals stay updated in both locations.
